Russia became the first (and currently the only) country in the world to officially recognize the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan. The state flag introduced by the Taliban was hoisted over the Afghan embassy in Moscow on Thursday.
The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained that this step "will give momentum to the development of productive bilateral cooperation" between the two countries "in various areas", particularly - in the economy and trade, as well as regional security, the fight against terrorism, and drug crime.
