Every year, half a million guns cross the southern border illegally. 70-90% of the guns recovered at crime scenes in Mexico are traced back to the United States. Texas alone contributes 14,000 of these guns, becoming the main arsenal for the cartels.
💀 The cartels prefer the SAME guns used in American massacres: AR-15 and AK-47. They also purchase .50 caliber rifles capable of taking down helicopters. A trafficker in Phoenix sold 650 AK-47s to straw buyers from the cartel. Another in Houston sold 336 guns, including 14 rifles in A SINGLE transaction.
📊 Devastating data: Between 2017-2021, Texas, Arizona, California, New Mexico, and Florida were the source of 26,001 criminal guns in Mexico (79% of the total). "Ghost guns" without serial numbers now represent 82% of investigations into unserialized guns.
Mexico has ONLY ONE gun store in the entire country and issues only 50 permits per year. It sued American manufacturers for negligent practices that "feed the toxic river" of guns to the cartels, but the industry has legal immunity since 2005.
