Meta Platforms Inc. may clash again with the EU, as a €200 million ($232 million) fine failed to bring Facebook and Instagram into compliance with the EU's strict new digital regulations. The European Commission stated that it sent a letter to the social media giant last week, warning that Meta's paid or consent services — which allow users to pay for an ad-free experience — need further adjustments. If Meta fails to meet the demands of EU Competition Commissioner Teresa Ribera and Digital Policy Commissioner Henna Virkkunen's teams, this procedural step may pave the way for the EU to issue a formal warning and eventually impose periodic fines. In April, Meta was first fined for violating the Digital Markets Act.
