💼 The European Union extends the suspension of countermeasures against U.S. tariffs until August
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced the extension of the suspension period for counter-tariff measures that were scheduled to be implemented in response to U.S. tariffs, until early August.
Von der Leyen confirmed that the European Commission prefers to continue negotiations with the United States as a means to resolve trade disputes, noting that the European stance has not changed in favoring negotiated solutions.
She added that these countermeasures were prepared for exceptional circumstances, but have not been activated so far, as current developments did not necessitate resorting to them.
The decision comes at a time when trade relations between the two sides are in a state of anticipation, amid ongoing talks and the absence of new escalation steps.
