Polkadot

Latest progress! The goal for elastic scaling is to launch on Polkadot in mid to late August! Projects that have shown strong interest in elastic scaling include:

  • peaq: A very popular parallel chain project hopes to use Core, and they have internally tested scenarios using 15 Cores simultaneously.

  • Unique has a clear interest, as well as Origin Trail (a data-centric chain), some NFT chains, and even Polkadot Hub itself, all planning to use multiple Cores.

  • The gaming chain Mythical is even researching whether a chain can be deployed for each game - meaning each game corresponds to a Core, which is also the reason Mythical migrated from Ethereum to Polkadot!

In addition, multiple projects like Hyperbridge, Hydration, Frequency, MandalaChain, Polimec, and Vbrick have also expressed a desire to use multiple Cores and are waiting for the launch of elastic scaling.

Additionally, Gavin mentioned in a recent interview that elastic scaling will be an interesting turning point for the DOT economic model! We look forward to it!

Polkadot consensus welcomes a key upgrade - Sassafras officially debuts! Polkadot is set to use a new protocol named Sassafras to replace the existing block production mechanism BABE + Aura. This upgrade will bring a more efficient and secure block production method, which is a significant benefit for the entire PoS blockchain ecosystem.

Common issues with current PoS blockchains:

  • Unstable block production time

  • Sometimes multiple validators rush to produce blocks, while at other times none do.

  • Leading to decreased throughput and making the network susceptible to attacks.

Innovative points of Sassafras:

  • Adopt a single secret leader election mechanism (SSLE), selecting only one validator to produce blocks each time, and keeping their identity confidential before block production to prevent attacks.

  • Introduce a new type of cryptographic technology, Ring VRF, to ensure efficiency while protecting validator privacy.

  • Fixed block generation time (e.g., one block every 6 seconds) to enhance network throughput and stability.

  • Can be used with Grandpa to achieve finality.

To draw an analogy: imagine you have a bakery, where bread comes out randomly from multiple conveyor belts, but only one can be packaged at a time. This is clearly inefficient. Now Sassafras is like using a single conveyor belt, producing one bread at fixed intervals, making production steady and fast.

In summary, Sassafras:

✅ More efficient block production

✅ Prevent network congestion and attacks

✅ Anonymous election mechanism ensures security

✅ Planned integration into the JAM protocol

Polkadot testnet major update! Developers please note! To simplify the developer experience, Polkadot officially establishes @PaseoNetwork as the only official testnet, and 'Westend' will no longer be recommended for use!

And added Passet Hub! This is a temporary instance of the Asset Hub system chain on Paseo!

  • It integrates pallet-revive (i.e., PolkaVM smart contract function preview)

  • Deployed by the Paseo core team and the Parity infrastructure team

  • Provides a preview environment to test upcoming Polkadot smart contract features in advance

  • Will regularly sync updates from Westend's Asset Hub

  • Once Paseo's official Asset Hub enables pallet-revive (expected Q4 2025), Passet Hub will be discontinued

More information (RPC, ParaID, faucet, documentation) has been synchronized and updated!

Gavin: Good technology will eventually win, just not necessarily in the first round! He cited examples of Betamax, VHS, Dreamcast, and PlayStation, emphasizing that what truly wins the market is solid technology and products that can solve problems in the long term.

Polkadot did not choose the easiest path but is solving the hardest problems in Web3:

⛓️ Large-scale trustless computation

📶 Independent execution bandwidth

🚫 Resist network congestion

🔒 High security + strong throughput

It may not explode in popularity immediately, but the direction is right. In a few years, the truly useful Web3 infrastructure will be here.

Has the crypto industry failed? In the last part of Gavin's three-hour in-depth discussion, he did not give a simple yes or no, but took us back to the idealism of ten years ago, then traversed to today's reality of compression and alienation. He talked about the boundaries of 'failure,' the industry's corrosion, and the boundaries of responsibility, and also discussed how 'anger' drives him to continue acting - even though he knows he cannot change everything.

He said: "I may not be able to change anything, but what I am doing now may be the strongest way I can do."

They talked about wealth, freedom, health and time sovereignty, and also discussed JAM - the vision and concerns behind this 'magical internet supercomputer'.

If you still have a glimmer of faith in the future of the crypto world, this conversation is worth reading to the end.

The Web3 Summit will officially kick off next Wednesday! The summit venue Funkhaus Berlin is one of the most representative sound recording studios in the world. It has hosted symphony orchestras and electronic music legends, and now... welcomes the pioneers of Web3. See you next week! https://x.com/Web3summit/status/1943587561236000773

"We have built everything on Polkadot, and the infrastructure is ready." - Dave Saddaka, head of Polkadot Capital Group, stated in the Nasdaq Trade Talks program.

Polkadot provides a modular compliance toolkit supporting KYC, permission management, and identity systems, making it an ideal platform for real-world assets on-chain.

True decentralized finance is not just about an attractive UI, but also a reliable underlying system. Polkadot is becoming the bridge connecting Web3 and traditional finance. https://x.com/Polkadot/status/1943414484556468569

Ecosystem projects

Gavin Wood recently stated in the JAM chat group - the future positioning of XCMP in JAM may be redesigned or replaced by other protocols like Hyperbridge! 👀

In the 68th PolkaWorld interview, we invited Hyperbridge co-founder Seun, a technical builder who worked at Parity and was deeply involved in the early architecture design of Polkadot, and a concept-driven '51% engineer + 49% philosopher' to discuss what Hyperbridge is and why it was named by Gavin as a replacement for Polkadot's cross-chain protocol!

Seun has personally experienced the technical bottlenecks of blockchain scaling, from Ethereum to Polkadot, and now creating the decentralized cross-chain bridge Hyperbridge; his path reflects the entire Web3 industry's shift from 'building the foundation' to 'focusing on real use cases'.

In this in-depth discussion, we talked about:

  • He believes that blockchain will be meaningless without practical applications.

  • Why Hyperbridge is a 'short bet' against the existing cross-chain bridge industry;

  • Why only on Polkadot can a truly decentralized co-processor style cross-chain bridge be built;

  • Why future bridges should be invisible but omnipresent infrastructure;

  • The importance of bridges is increasing day by day behind applications such as stablecoins, RWA, and tokenized stocks;

  • And how he saw the truth of this industry's 'madness and hope coexisting' while reviewing code late at night.

Check out the full interview content here(Hyperbridge: "Shorting" existing cross-chain protocols! Currently, no team has the technical capability to develop a "decentralized bridge"!)

Additionally, Hyperbridge's founder Seun tweeted this week that he decided to remove Sui and Aptos from Hyperbridge's roadmap. Although these two chains claim to have fast finality, they have not provided developers with APIs to query finality proofs. They will now focus on Polygon and Sonic! https://x.com/polkaworld_org/status/1943317608050364442

Translate Polkadot's vibe to traditional institutions and more people!

This is what we need to do right now!

Because Polkadot is often seen as 'technologically strong, but no one pays attention'!

But the fact is, it is still one of the options for many traditional institutions; they just do not know that many things are happening in the Polkadot ecosystem!

That's why @265Dots is doing this - to help @Polkadot amplify its voice, translate the Polkadot vibe, help more institutions truly understand the value of DOT, and promote practical applications! Learn more in the PolkaWorld article(Polkadot's confidence recovery period: It's not just about code, Web3 must also have a vibe!)
