According to Foresight News, Tether announced that it will terminate support for USDT on five blockchains: Omni, Bitcoin Cash SLP, Kusama, EOS, and Algorand, effective September 1, 2025. At that time, redemption will stop, and the remaining tokens on the aforementioned chains will be frozen.

Tether indicated that this move is part of an infrastructure strategy review aimed at optimizing resource allocation, focusing on chains with higher scalability, developer activity, and community participation, such as Layer 2 solutions like the Lightning Network and emerging blockchains. The aforementioned five chains provided significant support for Tether's early development, but their USDT usage has significantly declined in the past two years.

Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino stated that discontinuing support for old chains helps the company focus on key platforms that drive stablecoin adoption. Users holding USDT on the relevant chains should redeem as soon as possible or migrate to supported chains through service providers.
