According to internal records and sources consulted by the American news site Politico, at least eight of the initial core employees of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) have left the government. In the past six months, anyone wanting to enter the sixth floor of the U.S. General Services Administration headquarters — which is the core office area of the Department of Government Efficiency led by Musk — had to go through a verification by an armed guard, and only those whose names appeared on a pre-approved list could enter. Now, the guard has been withdrawn, and the sign that used to say 'Authorized Personnel Only' next to the elevator is gone. Compared to the high-profile firings of employees in the initial months, DOGE's current focus has shifted. Recent work includes removing useless government websites and phone lines, canceling unused software licenses, and collaborating with the National Weather Service to upgrade the national weather broadcasting system. Additionally, DOGE is also developing a new project called AI.gov, aimed at accelerating government innovation through artificial intelligence.
