On July 10, Coin World reported that Bitcoin Depot, a cryptocurrency ATM operator, disclosed a data breach that occurred on June 23, 2024, resulting in the personal information of 26,732 customers being leaked, including names, phone numbers, driver's license numbers, and other sensitive information. The company stated that an investigation by a cybersecurity firm confirmed that the breach was due to unauthorized access by a third party, but emphasized that "no evidence of misuse of customer information was found." The company explained that the delay in notification was due to compliance with federal law enforcement investigation requests, and it was not until June 13, 2025, that they were permitted to initiate the notification process. Currently, Bitcoin Depot has strengthened its security monitoring measures and recommends that affected users set up credit fraud alerts. This is the second significant data breach incident involving a cryptocurrency ATM operator, following Byte Federal in December 2024.
