Bitget: The History of the Formation and Growth of a Crypto Exchange

Bitget is one of the leading cryptocurrency exchanges that has become a notable player in the global digital asset market in a short time. Founded in 2018, it has gone from a derivatives-focused startup to a universal platform with a Web3 ecosystem, global ambassadors, and billion-dollar funds.

2018–2019: Foundation and first steps

Bitget was founded in July 2018 by a team of experts in finance, investment banking and blockchain technologies. A year later, in July 2019, the exchange launched linear futures, reached $100 million in trading volume and became profitable. The main focus was on derivatives and the technological reliability of the platform.

2020–2021: Growth and Copy Trading

In 2020, Bitget introduced a revolutionary feature — copy trading, which allowed users to copy the strategies of successful traders. This innovation quickly gained popularity and became the hallmark of the exchange.

That same year, a Series B funding round was held, in which the exchange raised $10 million from Anlan Capital and SNK, reaching a valuation of $1 billion and receiving the status of a "unicorn". In 2021, the product line was expanded - the exchange launched full-fledged spot trading.

2021–2023: Branding and Global Partnerships

One of the turning points was the sponsorship deal with Juventus Football Club in October 2021, when Bitget became the first sponsor of the club's jersey cuffs. In 2022, Lionel Messi joined the exchange as a global ambassador.

The company also strengthened its financial stability by registering Proof of Reserves and increasing the protection fund to $300 million, ensuring the safety of user funds.

2023–2024: Web3 Ecosystem and Expansion

Bitget is actively developing its own ecosystem:

In 2023, it acquired the BitKeep wallet, renaming it Bitget Wallet.

Created investment funds: Bitget Web3 Fund ($100 million), a fund with Core DAO ($200 million), as well as the educational initiative Blockchain4Youth with a budget of $10 million.

In September 2023, the EmpowerX Fund ($100 million) was launched to support ecosystem startups.

In 2024, Bitget began active international expansion: registration in Poland, Lithuania, El Salvador and the launch of local platforms BitgetX (Hong Kong) and Bitget VN (Вьзалезилаl

Of particular note is the $30 million investment in the TON ecosystem, a move that has strengthened Bitget's position in Telegram integrations and Web3 applications.

Today, Bitget has over 25 million users worldwide, hundreds of supported cryptocurrencies, one of the largest copy trading platforms, its own wallet and Web3 fund. The exchange continues to expand and focuses on security, innovation and global engagement in the crypto industry of the future.
