BlackRock, the US asset management giant, launched its bitcoin spot ETF - 'iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT)', which has only been listed for 18 months since January 2024, and the asset management scale (AUM) has already surpassed 700,000 bitcoins, valued at $76 billion.
According to information from BlackRock's official website, as of July 3, IBIT has cumulatively held 698,919 bitcoins, and with a net inflow of 1,510 bitcoins on July 7, the holding amount officially crossed the 700,000 mark.
Nate Geraci, president of NovaDius Wealth Management (formerly The ETF Store), stated: 'The iShares Bitcoin ETF currently holds over 700,000 bitcoins. It reached 700,000 in just 18 months. Unbelievable.'
According to Bloomberg ETF senior analyst Eric Balchunas, among BlackRock's 1,197 funds, IBIT is currently the 3rd highest revenue-contributing ETF, just about $9 billion away from the top spot.
$IBIT is now the 3rd highest revenue-generating ETF for BlackRock out of 1,197 funds, and is only $9b away from being #1. Just another insane stat for a 1.5yr old (literally an infant) ETF. Earlier last year, IBIT had already surpassed Grayscale's high-fee GBTC to become the world's largest bitcoin spot ETF. Now Fidelity's FBTC has also officially surpassed GBTC this year, with holdings exceeding 200,000 bitcoins, firmly securing the second position in the market.
In contrast, GBTC has been on a downward trend since its transformation into an ETF, with the holding amount decreasing significantly from a peak of 619,220 bitcoins to about 184,226 bitcoins, a drop of over 70%.
According to CoinGlass data, as of now, all bitcoin spot ETFs in the US hold a total of about 1.25 million bitcoins (equivalent to about $135 billion), accounting for approximately 6% of the total supply of 21 million bitcoins. Among them, IBIT alone comprises 56%, and its asset scale has even surpassed the 597,325 bitcoins (about $65 billion) held by Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy).
