It is recommended that everyone keep some USDT on hand
The introduction of regulations related to stablecoins is quietly changing the global financial landscape. The most typical example is that 'cryptocurrency stock trading' has begun to take shape, meaning that those holding stablecoins can now directly participate in the global stock market, no longer constrained by traditional account opening processes and country restrictions.
This poses a huge challenge for some countries, especially when there are few investment channels available, such as inadequate appeal of real estate and stock markets, which leads funds to seek new avenues. We can already see this trend, as evidenced by the frequent premiums in the Hong Kong stock connect and overseas ETFs, indicating strong investor interest in external markets.
To prevent excessive capital outflow, regulators have begun to take action—many overseas brokers, such as Futu and Tiger Brokers, have had their account opening permissions revoked, which is blocking the 'traditional channels.' However, now, the combination of stablecoins and cryptocurrency stocks has reopened a new channel: as long as you hold stablecoins like USDT, you can achieve 'bypassing local restrictions to invest in global markets.'
The problem is that the essence of stablecoins is actually the US dollar, and this path would lead to a large outflow of foreign exchange. This is unacceptable for regulators, so it is foreseeable that there may be stricter restrictions on C2C and OTC exchanges for 'exchanging RMB for stablecoins' in the future, or even a complete blockade of related entry points.
Therefore, before policies are fully tightened, preparing a certain proportion of stablecoin reserves for yourself is a way to hedge against risks. Once this path is completely sealed off in the future, if you want to exchange for US dollars, you will only be able to go through bank channels, limited by an annual quota of $50,000, with complex procedures and low efficiency.
The window of opportunity will not always exist; making some reservations and preparing in advance is much more composed than scrambling at the last minute.
