July 08, 2025: In a landmark move aimed at transforming Pakistan into a regional hub for digital finance, the Federal Cabinet has formally approved the creation of the Pakistan Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (PVARA).
This development marks a critical step toward establishing a comprehensive legal and institutional framework for regulating the country’s rapidly expanding digital asset ecosystem.
Once legislated, PVARA will operate as an independent regulator, responsible for licensing, monitoring, and supervising Virtual Asset Service Providers (VASPs).
The authority will ensure full alignment with Financial Action Task Force (FATF) standards and global best practices, as per the press release issued.
