BBVA has launched trading and storing of crypto assets for retail clients in Spain.
Services can be accessed directly from the bank's mobile app.
The organization uses its own infrastructure, relying on no third-party service providers.
One of the largest banks in Spain — Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA) — has launched services for trading and storing crypto assets for all clients. So far, the service supports only Bitcoin $BTC and Ethereum $ETH .
BBVA submitted the relevant application to the National Securities Market Commission of Spain (CNMV) in March 2025. It is known that the service will be integrated into the bank's mobile app.
The head of retail banking at BBVA in Spain, Gonzalo Rodriguez, confirmed this:
"We want to make it easier for our retail clients in Spain to invest in crypto assets through a simple and accessible digital solution on their mobile phones. Our goal is to support them in exploring digital assets, backed by the strength and security of a bank like BBVA."
The bank does not rely on third-party service providers. The organization uses its own infrastructure.
At this stage, BBVA retail customers can buy, store, and trade only Bitcoin and Ethereum in the mobile app. However, later the number of supported assets is promised to be expanded.
Prior to this, BBVA launched similar services in Switzerland and Turkey. According to the release, the company's goal is to provide clients with the best investment and transaction solutions.
BBVA generally supports the cryptocurrency industry. In particular, the bank recommends its clients allocate 3% to 7% of their portfolio to them.
