U.S. President Donald Trump called former special government employee Elon Musk a 'saboteur' on Truth Social on Sunday night after the Tesla billionaire announced the formation of a new political party on Saturday.

Donald Trump Attacks Elon Musk

Trump had critical words for Musk after he announced the formation of the 'American Party' in a post on Saturday, July 5.

“I am very sad to see Elon Musk completely 'go off the rails', basically becoming a TRAIN WRECK over the past week,” Trump stated in part of a social media post on July 6. “He even wants to form a Third Political Party, despite the fact that they have never succeeded in the United States…”

Trump also criticized his Democratic political opponents – who have voiced opposition to his latest cryptocurrency projects in recent months – by stating that they have 'lost trust and reason!'

“One thing that a third party could do well is create COMPLETE and TOTAL CHAOS & DISRUPTION, and we have had enough of these extreme Democrats,” Trump added.

Elon Musk Criticizes Trump Over Big Beautiful

Trump's comments came amid increasing divisions between Musk and the current U.S. president just months after the CEO of X stepped down from his role at the White House.

In recent weeks, Musk has publicly criticized Trump's 'Big and Beautiful' bill, arguing that this budget law would negatively impact the U.S. economy.

"I'm sorry, but I can't take it anymore," he wrote. "This massive, ridiculous, pork-filled spending bill by Congress is a disgusting abomination."

In a Truth Social post on Sunday, Trump stated that long-term cryptocurrency investors were unhappy that the bill lacked mandatory electric vehicle regulations.

“I asked him if he knew that I would end the EV Order – That is in every speech of mine and in every conversation of mine,” Trump said. “He said he had no problem with that – I was very surprised!”

It is still unclear how the United States Party will position itself regarding digital assets when it is fully deployed.
