Elon Musk continues to shake the political landscape in the U.S. by publicly attacking President Donald Trump for the lack of anyone being prosecuted in the sex scandal involving Jeffrey Epstein.
In a post on the X platform on the morning of July 7 (U.S. time), Elon Musk – who was once a close ally but has now become a political rival of Trump – posted a satirical image titled 'Count of People Arrested in the Epstein Case' with the figure '0000'.
'What time is it now? Oh, it's again the time-when-no-one-is-arrested...', Musk wrote sarcastically.
This comment came after Musk responded to another post criticizing the Trump administration for promising to publicly release the 'Epstein list' but then denying the existence of any list.
'This is the last straw,' Musk commented.
Musk's move came shortly after Axios revealed an internal memo from the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the FBI. This two-page document stated that there was no evidence that Epstein – a convicted sex offender – had blackmailed powerful figures or held a 'client list' as many conspiracy theories have long claimed.
The memo also supports previous conclusions that Epstein committed suicide in Manhattan jail in 2019, and there is no basis to believe he was murdered. More importantly, the DOJ has no plans to prosecute anyone else related to the case.
This information has sparked a strong backlash from the public, especially from those who believe that the Epstein case still has many hidden complexities.
In a notable development from last month, Elon Musk stated on X that: 'Trump is listed in Epstein's files. That is the real reason why the documents have never been released.'
Shortly thereafter, he asserted: 'Mark this post. The truth will eventually come to light.'
Musk's insinuating accusation came just minutes after Trump threatened to cancel government contracts with businesses belonging to one of his biggest donors for the 2024 campaign.
Notably, before being elected in 2016, Trump had said he had 'no problem' with publicly releasing documents related to Epstein.
However, last year he completely denied any connection, writing on social media: 'I never flew on Epstein's plane or went to that 'stupid' island. Strict laws must be enacted regarding artificial intelligence – because it will be a very big and dangerous issue in the future!'
The day before Musk's sarcastic post, Trump also posted a lengthy message criticizing Musk for calling for the establishment of a third political party.
'I am really disappointed to see Elon Musk increasingly 'off the rails', becoming a derailed train over the past five weeks,' Trump wrote.
'He even wants to establish a third party, although history shows this model has never succeeded in America. The current system is not designed for that,' he added. 'The only thing third parties are good at is creating COMPLETE CHAOS AND TURMOIL, and we have had more than enough of that from the Progressive Democratic Party, who have lost confidence and reason!'
The Hill also reported that it had contacted the White House for comments on Musk's statements.
