In the latest Jurassic World film, scientists embark on a top-secret mission to clone dinosaurs using ancient DNA. But how much of this blockbuster science is actually possible?
✅ What’s real?
Scientists have extracted bits of DNA from prehistoric insects trapped in amber and from well-preserved fossils — a fascinating field known as paleogenetics.
❌ What’s fiction?
DNA degrades over time, and so far, no complete dino genome has survived the 65+ million-year gap. Plus, recreating a living dinosaur would require more than DNA — like a viable egg, a surrogate species, and tons of unknown genetic info.
Bottom line? We’re still far from having a real-life T-Rex in the backyard — and maybe that’s a good thing. 😉
