Billionaire breaks with Trump and proposes a new pro-technology party, the 'America Party'
Billionaire Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, announced last weekend the creation of a new political party in the United States, the America Party, with the promise of adopting Bitcoin as part of its agenda. The statement was made on Sunday (6) in response to a user on the social network X, who questioned whether the party would support the cryptocurrency.
'Fiat currency has no salvation, so yes,' Musk said, confirming that Bitcoin would be part of the new party's pillars.
The announcement of the party comes after a break between Musk and President Donald Trump, with whom he had maintained political closeness. The trigger was reportedly the so-called 'Big, Beautiful Bill' – a $3.4 trillion public spending bill recently signed by Trump. Musk labeled the package as a 'revolting abomination' for drastically increasing the country's fiscal deficit.
According to Musk, the America Party emerges as a centrist and pro-technology alternative to what he calls a 'disguised single-party system' between Republicans and Democrats.
'When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste and corruption, we live in a single-party system, not a democracy,' he wrote on Saturday (5). 'Today, the America Party was formed to return freedom to you.'
Bitcoin as a symbol of rupture
In advocating for the use of Bitcoin as the official currency of his party, Musk reinforces his critical view of the traditional monetary system. The adoption of the cryptocurrency reflects the economic decentralization proposal that the billionaire has promoted in recent years, both through statements and initiatives in his companies.
The America Party has not yet been officially registered with the U.S. Federal Election Commission, but it already has an active website. Among the names that have publicly shown interest in the project are billionaire Mark Cuban and Anthony Scaramucci, founder of the investment firm SkyBridge Capital.
Musk stated that the party's initial plan would be to win '2 or 3 seats in the Senate and 8 to 10 districts in the House' — enough to serve as a decisive bloc in the approval or rejection of controversial laws.
Donald Trump rebate
Musk envisions the party, which has yet to be officially registered, as a party that adopts a pro-technology, pro-free speech, and anti-regulation agenda, with centrist policies elsewhere.
The America Party does not yet have an official website, so everything known about its political ideology comes from Musk's posts and retweets from his supporters.
Musk said on X that the party, when formed, will not immediately launch a presidential candidate, but will instead focus on House and Senate races.
Trump, for his part, said that Musk 'has gone off the rails.'
