🧠 Vitalik is once again adjusting the gas knob: EIP-7983 and the fight against DoS demons"
Ethereum is once again on the operating table. Vitalik Buterin and Toni Wahrstätter propose EIP-7983 - a surgical adjustment of the Gas Limit to 16.77 million. Why?
🔧 Objective of the operation:
- 💥 Reduce the risk of DoS attacks (goodbye, spammers!)
- ⚙️ Improve the performance of zkVM (Zero-Knowledge Virtual Machines - hello, privacy and scalability)
- ⚖️ Balance gas efficiency (saving where we can)
🤔 What does this mean for us, ordinary mortals?
- Transactions will become more stable, but possibly a bit less flexible
- zk-protocols will get a boost - zkSync, StarkNet, and others can cheer
- Miners and validators will have to adapt to the new ceiling
Ethereum is like the good old Volkswagen Beetle: to make it run better, you not only need to change the oil but also limit how many passengers get in the cabin. Vitalik simply closed the back door.
