Hack 2,700 USD, Steal 140 Million USD: The Record-Breaking Bank Heist with Crypto in Brazil
A group #Hacker has just shocked Brazil by stealing 140 million USD from the banking network, simply by purchasing login information for just 2,700 USD. The target was C&M Software, a company that connects small banks with the Central Bank of Brazil's fast payment system, Pix.
From information sold by an IT employee, the hacker group infiltrated the reserve accounts of at least 6 banks, issuing fake transfer orders within just 3 hours, early on June 30. Specifically, BMP – a digital banking service provider – lost over 73 million USD.
After stealing the money, the criminals immediately laundered it through $BTC ,$ETH and Tether, with a value of about 40 million USD converted into crypto before being frozen. A wallet containing nearly 50 million USD was promptly blocked, but many transactions still remain untraceable.
Unlike personal account hacks, this is a direct attack on the banking connection infrastructure, exploiting Pix itself – the instant payment system favored for its ultra-fast transaction processing.
#Brazil is currently rushing to coordinate inter-agency investigations into the remaining crypto flow, amid a backdrop of cybercriminals increasingly abusing digital currency for money laundering. The incident is seen as a major warning for digital banking and blockchain security.
