Since Independence Day falls on Friday, July 4th, this year many investors are wondering about the stock market hours and closures. The U.S. stock markets will indeed be closed on Friday due to the federal holiday, but there is more to know about the trading schedule.
Nasdaq and the New York Stock Exchange will also close early on Thursday, July 3rd, creating extended holiday weekends for Wall Street.
Markets will close early on July 3rd and remain closed on July 4th.
The stock market will be completely closed on Friday, July 4th, for Independence Day, a federal holiday that has been officially recognized since 1870. However, the holiday's impact begins earlier, and Nasdaq and the New York Stock Exchange will close early at 1:00 PM Eastern Time on Thursday, July 3rd. This early closure allows market participants to start preparing for the holiday weekend while ensuring orderly market operations.
The U.S. bond market follows a similar schedule, closing early at 2:00 PM Eastern Time on July 3rd and remaining closed on July 4th, according to the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association.
