Kurant, the Austrian company that owns Europe’s largest cryptocurrency ATM network, has decided to suspend its operations in Germany due to lack of licensing under the EU’s new Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) law, a necessary step in the face of increasingly stringent cryptocurrency regulations.
The decision will see most Bitcoin ATMs in Germany shut down from July 1, 2025. However, Kurant said this is not a permanent shutdown but just a temporary shutdown to ensure compliance with the new standard.

Any transactions initiated before July 1 will be completed normally, but new transactions will be paused until authorization is granted.
