The National Bank of Kazakhstan supported the initiative of the Mazhilis deputies to create a state cryptocurrency reserve, which may consist of confiscated $BTC . This was stated on June 30, 2025, by the head of the regulator Timur Suleimenov, as reported by Kursiv. The reserve is planned to be used for storing part of the state assets in cryptocurrency, participating in the digital economy, and supporting the development of the industry.

The Ministry of Digital Development of Kazakhstan compares the future reserve to the National Fund, which accumulates revenues from the raw materials sector to stabilize the economy. Switzerland, Singapore, and the UAE are taken as examples, where tokenized assets are actively used. It has not yet been determined which cryptocurrencies will be included in the reserve and whether they will be purchased with budget funds. Deputy Olzhas Kуспеков proposed to store assets confiscated in criminal cases in the reserve, but the National Bank considers a separate fund for this unnecessary, as crypto assets are equated to property.

The initiative is in the development stage, details and timelines for implementation are being clarified. Follow the news on #MiningUpdates
