Ripple has announced a major update to the XRP Ledger (XRPL) version 2.5.0, which brings its functionality closer to Ethereum's capabilities. The update, launched in June 2025, includes smart contracts, batch transactions, and support for stablecoin $USDC . According to Ripple's CTO David Schwartz, the goal is to make XRPL competitive with Ethereum and Solana by expanding programmable features and lowering fees.

Additionally, Ripple has launched an EVM sidechain based on Cosmos Stack and IBC, allowing the migration of 87 projects from Ethereum and Binance Smart Chain. This opens up new opportunities for institutional applications and decentralized finance (DeFi). Ripple is also considering further changes to the fee structure to make transactions more cost-effective.

The update has sparked lively discussions in the crypto community, as XRPL is now positioned as a universal platform for developers. The company also hinted at possible acquisitions to strengthen the ecosystem. This could bolster $XRP 's market position, although competition with Ethereum remains a challenge.

The XRPL update demonstrates Ripple's ambitions to make its blockchain a center for innovation in Web3. Stay tuned for news to learn more!
