Aptos Labs has officially announced a partnership with Jump Crypto to develop Shelby, a next-generation decentralized hot storage network, optimized for real-time applications in the Web3 ecosystem. Shelby aims to become a high-speed data storage infrastructure, serving a variety of fields such as content streaming, artificial intelligence (AI) data, social media, DePIN (Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Networks), and many other use cases.
The Shelby network stands out with a response time of under 1 second, a flexible usage-based pricing mechanism (pay-as-you-go), support for access control via token (token gating), digital rights management (DRM), and the integration of smart contracts for access control and dynamic pricing. All these features are enabled through an on-chain programming architecture, combined with high-performance nodes and a foundational fiber optic system.
The developer test network (Shelby Developer Testnet – Devnet) is expected to be launched in Q4 2025, supporting several major blockchain ecosystems such as $APT , $ETH and $SOL , aiming to provide multi-chain compatibility and expand the range of applications.
Some of the first projects to integrate with Shelby include Metaplex, Story Protocol, and Pipe Network. In addition, the major media group NBCUniversal is also planning to use Shelby to optimize streaming scenarios, demonstrating the strong practical application potential of this platform in the digital content industry.
