๐จ A new virus called SparkKitty is targeting crypto users and stealing seed phrases (wallet backups) from their phoneโs photo gallery, even if the app was downloaded from the Play Store or App Store.
๐ต๏ธโโ๏ธ The cybersecurity company Kaspersky discovered this hidden malware in early 2025.
๐ง Whatโs the full story?
Hackers created fake apps โ including TikTok clones and crypto wallets โ that secretly scan your saved images.
They use AI tools to read screenshots of wallet seed phrases and other sensitive info.
The virus works on both Android and iOS and was found even in apps from official stores (some now removed).
The apps ask for access to your photo gallery โ and once allowed, they quietly steal images in the background.
These fake apps also led to scam stores like "TikToki Mall" where crypto was accepted.
๐ How to Stay Safe:
โ Never take a photo of your seed phrase or store it in your phone gallery
โ Delete any strange crypto or TikTok apps not from trusted developers
๐ฑ Check app permissions โ if a TikTok app asks for photo access, itโs a red flag
๐ผ Store your wallet backup offline or on a hardware wallet
๐ง The malware isnโt just after crypto โ it grabs all images, so your personal data is also at risk.
๐ Be extra careful when downloading apps. Even if it looks real, it could be a trap.
