In a high-stakes legal battle, Pavel Durov’s defense team dismantles French prosecutors’ case, exposing major procedural missteps and shaky charges surrounding Telegram’s alleged role in criminal conspiracies.

French prosecutors’ attempt to indict Telegram co-founder Pavel Durov faces mounting scrutiny as his attorney, Christophe Ingrain, highlights substantial flaws in the case. The accusations hinge on Durov’s supposed complicity in illegal activities conducted via the Telegram platform.

However, Ingrain asserts that “complicity does not extend to inaction” and insists there’s no proof of Durov’s direct involvement. He criticizes law enforcement’s procedural errors, noting they failed to use Telegram’s official EU Digital Services Act communication channel, rendering their requests invalid.

Despite claims of non-cooperation, Ingrain counters that Telegram actively collaborates with authorities and has blocked 21 million accounts in 2024 alone, including 28,000 in France. Durov remains under judicial control in Paris following his August 2024 detention on charges that could lead to 10 years imprisonment and hefty fines.
