Iran tightens cryptocurrency exchange operations after hack of over 100 million USD at Nobitex
After a serious attack that led to the theft of over 100 million USD from Iran's largest cryptocurrency exchange – #Nobitex – the Central Bank of Iran has issued a time limit on the operations of all domestic crypto exchanges, allowing them to open only from 10 AM to 8 PM daily.
This measure aims to control risks, make security incidents easier to track, and prevent capital outflows amid escalating political tensions in the region.
Nobitex has confirmed that it has severed all remote connections, transferred all assets from hot wallets to cold wallets, and will use the Reserve Fund to compensate affected users.
⛔ Investor warning:
The incident is an important reminder of security risks in the crypto market, especially in areas with political instability. Investors should:
Avoid holding large amounts of assets on the exchange's hot wallet.
Prioritize using personal cold wallets to keep coins/tokens long-term.
Always enable two-factor authentication (2FA) and monitor security notifications from the exchange.
Be cautious when investing in lesser-known exchanges or in countries with unclear regulations.
Investing in cryptocurrency carries high risks. Always consider carefully and prioritize asset safety.
