$WLD #SwingTradingStrategy #XSuperApp #PowellRemarks #CryptoStocks #MyTradingStyle Reddit – a major global social media platform – is considering integrating World ID technology, a biometric-based identity verification solution developed by Worldcoin (WLD), a startup co-founded by Sam Altman. According to a report from Semafor on June 20, 2025, Reddit is in internal discussions about applying iris scanning technology to verify user identities on the platform while still maintaining anonymity – a core aspect of Reddit.
World ID technology operates based on a retinal scanning device called Orb – a metal sphere roughly the size of a bowling ball. When users agree to scan their eyes with the Orb, the AI system processes the retinal data to confirm that it is a real person, not a bot, while ensuring that each individual is issued a unique ID. This is aimed at preventing fake accounts and assisting Reddit in protecting the integrity of the community.
However, if Reddit officially implements World ID, it will not be the only form of verification. The platform will still allow users to choose alternative authentication methods to suit their needs and levels of personal privacy.
Reddit's consideration of advanced biometric technology like World ID reflects a growing trend in applying blockchain and AI solutions to the field of digital identity verification, especially in the context of social media platforms facing issues of fake account abuse and bots. If approved, this could be a significant step in integrating Web3 technology into existing Web2 platforms.
