Pavel Durov Allowed to Return to Dubai After Easing of Judicial Supervision
Since his indictment in August 2024, Pavel Durov's judicial supervision has prohibited him from leaving the country.
Starting July 10, he will be able to return to Dubai occasionally, but not elsewhere. The French courts relaxed the judicial supervision of Telegram founder Pavel Durov this Thursday, authorizing him to travel there for "maximum periods of 14 consecutive days," a judicial source reported this Thursday, confirming a report by Le Monde.
Pavel Durov, who had only been able to travel abroad occasionally since his indictment at the end of August for complicity in criminal activity, had applied to the investigating chamber of the Paris Court of Appeal to modify the ban on leaving the country, as set out in his judicial supervision. This Thursday, the investigating chamber authorized Pavel Durov, starting July 10, "to leave mainland France for a maximum of 14 consecutive days, subject to prior notification to the investigating judge one week in advance, and solely to travel to Dubai, to the exclusion of any other destination," according to the same source.
"Unfounded and totally disproportionate" obligations
According to the same source, he will have his identity documents and passport returned on that date, while the other obligations of his judicial supervision, including a hefty bail bond, remain in place. His lawyers, Guillaume Martine and Robin Binsard, declined to comment to AFP when contacted.
"Pavel Durov's judicial supervision obligations had become unfounded and totally disproportionate, like the accusations made by the prosecutor," said David-Olivier Kaminski, another of his lawyers.
