According to ChainCatcher, Apple is considering using artificial intelligence to accelerate the design of its custom chips for devices, as reported by Reuters. Apple's Senior Vice President of Hardware Technology, Johny Srouji, stated that a key lesson the company has learned is the need to use cutting-edge tools for chip design. 'Electronic Design Automation (EDA) companies are crucial in supporting the complexity of our chip designs, and generative AI technology has tremendous potential to complete more design work in a shorter time frame, significantly boosting productivity.' However, according to AppleInsider, Apple has been using AI in its designs to some extent for years, as it has relied on third-party EDA companies that have utilized AI and machine learning in chip design.

At the same time, software giant Microsoft plans to lay off thousands of employees in an effort to streamline its workforce to keep up with competitors amid increased investment in AI. Microsoft is currently integrating AI more into its products and services. This week, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy also stated that the rollout of generative AI and agent AI in the coming years will reduce its workforce.
