#BTC The second largest bank in Spain, #BBVA (Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria), has advised its wealthy clients to allocate a portion of their portfolio to investment in cryptocurrencies.
BBVA recommended that its high-net-worth clients invest between 3% and 7% of their portfolio in cryptocurrencies and Bitcoin ($BTC ), depending on their desired risk exposure, Reuters reported on Tuesday, citing an executive from the banking giant.
BBVA has been conducting cryptocurrency operations since 2021 and moved to active advisory services in late 2024, positioning itself ahead of most traditional banks.
In March, Spain's securities regulator allowed the bank to offer Bitcoin trading.
"With private clients, since September of last year, we started advising on Bitcoin," said Philippe Meyer, head of digital and blockchain solutions at BBVA Switzerland, at a conference in London. He added that portfolio allocation has now increased for riskier profiles.
Meyer said that clients have been receptive to the bank's advice and dismissed concerns that the asset was too risky. "If you look at a balanced portfolio, by introducing 3%, you already improve the performance. With 3%, you are not taking a huge risk," he said.
