Trump recently expressed dissatisfaction with Federal Reserve Chairman Powell.

He joked that Powell is "not wise enough" on interest rate cuts and is "always a beat behind," even half-jokingly suggested, "Why don't I do the job of the Federal Reserve Chairman myself? I don't know if they would allow me to appoint myself, but I could definitely do better!"

Before the Federal Reserve's June decision was announced, Trump predicted that Powell would not lower interest rates and again criticized the chairman he initially nominated, who now he feels is not performing well. He believes the Federal Reserve is acting too slowly, causing the U.S. to lose out on "hundreds of billions of dollars" in financing costs, while Europe has already lowered rates multiple times.

Trump also mentioned that Powell has only a few months left in his term, and he would never reappoint him, suggesting that Powell might be a Democrat or "just doesn't like me." Although the two have met recently, Powell has consistently emphasized that Federal Reserve decisions are not influenced by politics.
