When War Hits the Blockchain
On June 18, 2025, the hacker group Predatory Sparrow, believed to be linked to Israel, claimed responsibility for a major cyberattack on Iranian crypto exchange Nobitex.
🎯 Objective: to burn approximately $90 million in crypto assets.
The funds were transferred to inaccessible wallets, accompanied by messages targeting Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
This operation is part of a broader wave of geopolitical cyberwarfare. The impact:
➡️ Complete disruption of Nobitex’s operations
➡️ ATM and banking services disabled across the country
➡️ Iran accuses state actors of weaponizing blockchain technology
At Binance, we are closely monitoring the situation.
In times of global crisis, on-chain security and transparency remain our top priorities.
💬 What’s your take?
Should crypto remain neutral in geopolitical conflicts — or is that already impossible?
