On June 18, 2025, the hacker group Gonjeshke Darande, known as Predatory Sparrow, announced the hack of the largest Iranian cryptocurrency exchange Nobitex, stealing assets worth $81.7 million. The next day, the hackers followed through on their threat by publishing the platform's source code and internal data. This became one of the largest cyberattacks in Iran's history targeting the country's financial infrastructure.

A group linked to Israeli intelligence accused Nobitex of facilitating sanctions evasion and financing terrorism through cryptocurrency operations. Hackers used provocative wallet addresses, including ones with inscriptions like 'Fack IRGC Terrorists', to withdraw funds, part of which, according to Elliptic, was burned to send a political message.

Nobitex confirmed the attack, stating that cold wallets remained untouched, and promised to compensate for the losses through an insurance fund. However, the code leak threatens trust in the platform and user security. This incident highlights the vulnerability of cryptocurrency exchanges in cyber warfare.
