Following the notorious hacking of Nobitex, Israeli hacker Gonjeshke Darande revealed the destruction of 90 million dollars in stolen cryptocurrencies. These assets include Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Dogecoin (DOGE), and more.
In a post on X, the hacker stated: 'Eight burn addresses burned 90 million dollars from Nobitex wallets, the regime's favorite tool for violating sanctions.' The group claimed to have destroyed the funds by transferring them to custom addresses across multiple blockchains. These addresses were designed with unrecoverable private keys, making the assets unrecoverable and permanently locked.
Yesterday, Nobitex suffered a massive cryptocurrency hack. Gonjeshke Darande, also known as Predator Sparrow, claimed responsibility for the hack, stating it was retaliation for Nobitex's alleged involvement in helping the Iranian regime evade sanctions and finance terrorism.
The hacking of Nobitex can be interpreted as an escalation of the conflict between Iran and Israel, extending into the digital realm. To further escalate these geopolitical tensions, the hackers threaten to publish Nobitex's source code in 12 hours, which could expose vulnerabilities and compromise the platform's security. They insinuate that user assets will be at risk if they remain in Nobitex, so it would be wise to withdraw them.
While the Israeli hacker group mentioned unrecoverable addresses, some contain provocative phrases like 'FuckIRGCTerroristsNoBiTEX'. This indicates that the group is directly attacking the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran.
Additionally, they used specific techniques to ensure the permanent loss of funds, including sending Ethereum tokens to the burn address '0x…dead' and creating a Bitcoin wallet with an invalid checksum, rendering it unusable.
In response to the hack of Nobitex, the Iranian cryptocurrency exchange platform issued a new statement. The company announced that the situation is under control. They stated that all external access to their servers was cut off. The technical team of the Iranian platform proactively emptied active wallets to protect user assets. This resulted in a significant reduction of visible holdings on the blockchain networks.
Additionally, they added that the hackers transferred the stolen funds, estimated at around 100 million dollars, to non-standard wallets. According to Nobitex, the Israeli hackers announced the destruction of the tokens with the intention of harming users under false pretenses. Despite this measure, the exchange platform emphasized that user assets are safe, citing:
"We reiterate that user assets are protected by Nobitex's Reserve Fund and will not be lost. We remain committed to ensuring the security of your assets and maintaining your trust."
