Hackers Steal Millions from Iran’s Largest Crypto Exchange 💥💰 Incident Overview Iran’s largest crypto exchange, Nobitex, revealed it was hacked on June 18, 2025, leading to the draining of funds from its hot wallet. The platform, which serves over 10 million users, confirmed unauthorized access to its infrastructure and wallet, where part of customers’ crypto assets are stored. Stolen Funds Hackers are reported to have stolen at least $90 million from the exchange over several transactions. Blockchain analysts from Elliptic reported that the stolen funds were sent to inaccessible wallets, effectively rendering them useless. Hacking Group Claim The pro-Israel group, Predatory Sparrow (Gonjeshke Darande), claimed responsibility for the attack. They stated the hack was a retaliation against Nobitex for allegedly funding terrorism and evading international sanctions on Iran. The same group also took credit for an attack on Bank Sepah in Iran, causing widespread ATM outages the day before. Political Context This cyberattack occurs amid heightened tensions between Israel and Iran. While it’s unclear who exactly operates Predatory Sparrow, the group has a history of targeting Iranian organizations with destructive cyberattacks and seems aligned with Israeli interests.
