Who created USDC?
USDC (USD Coin) was launched in 2018 by the Centre Consortium, a joint project of two key players in the cryptocurrency industry: Circle and Coinbase.
Circle, founded by Jeremy Allaire and Sean Neville, is a global financial technology company specializing in digital payments and infrastructure. Coinbase, one of the largest cryptocurrency exchanges in the world, was founded by Brian Armstrong and Fred Ehrsam.
The goal of creating USDC was to provide a regulated, transparent, and fully-backed stablecoin that could serve as a stable medium of exchange in the ever-evolving blockchain and decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystem. Unlike some other stablecoins, the Centre Consortium places a special emphasis on regular audits and transparency of reserves, which is one of the pillars of trust in USDC.
