Vietnam is reshaping its policies towards digital currencies in a move aimed at regulating the sector instead of banning it. The Vietnamese government announced the formation of a special committee under the supervision of the Vietnamese Central Bank to study the possibilities of legalizing the trading of digital assets and launching a regulatory framework that considers innovation while protecting investors at the same time.
One of the key areas of focus is the establishment of an official local cryptocurrency exchange and requiring companies operating in the field to register and comply with anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing standards.
Although digital currencies are not yet considered a legal means of payment, Vietnam is one of the fastest-growing countries in adopting crypto, ranking first globally in terms of active users relative to its population, according to Chainalysis reports for 2024.
📌 These moves could pave the way for Vietnam to become a regional crypto hub in Southeast Asia, providing significant opportunities for traders and startups in the region.
🚀 Are we witnessing the birth of an official crypto exchange in Vietnam soon?
