BlockBeats news, on June 14, according to CNBC, Coatue Management founder Philippe Laffont stated that although the early high volatility of Bitcoin deterred investors, multiple factors are now driving this mainstream crypto asset to become a key component of investment portfolios.
The hedge fund founder focused on the technology sector expressed the above views on Thursday at the Coinbase Crypto Status Summit held in New York City.
Laffont pointed out that, firstly, despite Bitcoin rising nearly 13% so far in 2025, its overall volatility is decreasing. He stated that the significant fluctuations in Bitcoin's price in the past had deterred many potential investors and were a key reason why Coatue had once not invested in Bitcoin.
He stated on stage: 'What interests me is that perhaps... the cost of entering Bitcoin is becoming lower. If its Beta value (which measures the volatility of an asset relative to the market) shrinks, that would be very significant.'
Additionally, he also mentioned that institutional investors are starting to accept Bitcoin, which marks the increasing maturity of such assets. For example, BlackRock was one of the leaders in pushing for the listing of Bitcoin spot ETFs.
