#TrumpTariffs
– A Trade War Tune
In twenty-eighteen, a bold decree,
Trump struck with tariffs, wild and free.
"America First!" his cry did sound,
With steel and aluminum gains unbound.
From China’s shores to Europe’s trade,
He taxed imports the U.S. made.
Washing machines, tech, and soy—
Retaliation came, not joy.
Aimed to protect the working class,
Factories, jobs—bring back en masse.
But farmers groaned and prices soared,
With trade allies feeling ignored.
Markets jolted, stocks would sway,
Consumers bore the price to pay.
Global tension, deals undone,
A tit-for-tat had just begun.
Some cheered the stand for U.S. pride,
Others feared the cost worldwide.
WTO frowned, talks grew strained,
Old alliances slowly waned.
NAFTA replaced, new USMCA,
While China talks would stall, then sway.
A Phase One deal did dull the flame,
Yet little changed in tariff’s name.
Lessons linger in this rift:
Trade’s not simple, nor a gift.
Politics and policy blend,
With long-term costs around the bend.
#TrumpTariffs—history’s call,
Of walls not built, but trade wars tall.
