When this happened, everyone was shocked: Didn’t they say that X is a "platform for free speech"? Why are they also starting to ban crypto accounts?

What’s the reason behind the bans? Here are a few guesses:

1. Did someone post a meme that Musk doesn’t like?

Some say it’s because an account posted a meme mocking the "reconciliation" between Musk and Trump, and as a result, Musk saw it and wasn’t happy, leading to account suspensions.

But this reason doesn’t hold up—

Because not only the account that posted the meme was banned, but many who didn’t even post anything were also banned. Moreover, other accounts that posted similar memes are still fine.

Did the GMGN project crawl too much data from X?

Others say that the GMGN team crawled too much data from X and caught the platform’s attention.

However, to be honest, many projects in the InfoFi space are also crawling data; none are truly paying to use the official API. So it seems unreasonable to only ban GMGN.

Will X platform follow the old path of Weibo?

This mass account suspension inevitably reminds people of the time when Weibo banned crypto KOLs.
