Trump: I’m Keeping Tesla and Starlink

Despite weeks of high-profile clashes with Elon Musk, former President Donald Trump announced Monday that he has no intention of severing ties with Musk’s companies. “I’m not getting rid of Tesla or Starlink,” Trump said. Still, he warned that if Musk chooses to back Democrats opposing GOP lawmakers, “there will be serious consequences.”

The feud began with tax criticism and a NASA snub

The tension exploded after Musk publicly slammed Trump’s new tax bill, calling it “an abomination”, mainly due to the elimination of the $7,500 electric vehicle tax credit. JPMorgan analysts estimate this could cost Tesla $1.2 billion in profits this year.

Musk also clashed with the administration after Trump removed Jared Isaacman, a Musk ally, from NASA leadership consideration, a move Elon reportedly didn’t expect and took personally.

Deleted tweets and Epstein accusations intensify the drama

Trump responded by suggesting Musk may have been “on ketamine” during federal contract work.

Musk fired back with a bombshell:

🔹 In a now-deleted post on X, he claimed Trump is mentioned in classified Epstein files.

🔹 “That’s the real reason they were never released. Have a nice day, DJT!” he wrote.

Though the post vanished, screenshots went viral.

In retaliation, Trump floated the idea of terminating federal contracts with Musk’s companies, saying:

“I could do that. I haven’t thought about it – but I could.”

Republicans caught in the middle of a Trump–Musk standoff

The escalating feud is shaking the Republican base.

🔹 Musk has financially supported conservative campaigns,

🔹 But Trump remains the party’s dominant figure.

The tension deepened as Musk began liking posts calling for Trump’s impeachment, even endorsing VP J.D. Vance as a replacement. He also slammed Trump’s trade tariffs, warning they could trigger a recession.

Inside the White House, officials tried to downplay the conflict. But after Musk’s Epstein-related accusations, the tone shifted. Trump’s team made it clear: this is personal now.

Trump softens, but puts the ball in Elon’s court

At a press conference with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Trump remarked:

“Elon used to say wonderful things about me… I think he’ll come around.”

He added: “Maybe he already called—ask him.”

While emphasizing he’s not pulling Tesla or Starlink contracts yet, Trump left the door open:

🔹 “Maybe I’ll move the Tesla. Maybe not.”

🔹 “Did he call me? I don’t want to say.”
