U.S. officials—Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, and Trade Representative Jamieson Greer—are meeting Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng and delegation at Lancaster House in London. These are extensions of the 90‑day Geneva pause struck in May  .

• Key Focus: Rare Earths & Export Controls

Rare earth minerals, crucial for EVs, defense, and tech, are the centerpiece. The U.S. wants China to lift export curbs, while Beijing uses them as leverage. The U.S. may offer easing on semiconductor export restrictions in return .

• Optimism But Far from Final

Treasury Secretary Bessent called Monday’s session “good,” and Lutnick described it as “fruitful.” Talks are continuing into Tuesday .
