💥 Why I say DeFi is a groundbreaking achievement of humanity (even though playing Crypto now feels like gambling, everyone is losing their shirts).
Take the example of sending money across borders nowadays (it's incredibly expensive):
Imagine: Some folks going abroad for work, struggling like hell, save up 200 dollars to send back to Tanzania and it costs them 115 dollars in fees. If they send it to Turkey, it costs 53 dollars…
The reason: Banks control the flow of money and charge arbitrary fees. It's slow, costly, and against ordinary people.
However, if these folks have ever used Ethereum L2 or Solana… then when converting fiat money to stablecoins (USDT, USDC…) they can send a lot of money in just a few seconds with nearly zero cost.
That’s why decentralized finance on the blockchain, DeFi, has emerged and as a result, central banks around the world have become “lazy”, which is why in the early days it was ruthlessly suppressed. But it was during that time that early crypto enthusiasts like me benefited because there were fewer Ponzi schemes, scams, and fewer false promises. Now, however, it’s a different story, with so many false promise projects, tech coins, big coins, top coins that they are just scamming people clean. Investment only leads to losses, losses, and more losses. And the early memes that no one invested in are now soaring. That’s why playing crypto now feels really risky. Damn those market makers are getting greedier, draining the blood of the community!
