During a phone interview with NBC host Kristen Welker, Trump made it clear that he does not plan to reconcile with the former ally. When asked whether he believed the relationship with the billionaire has broken down, Trump replied, "I think so, yes." He added, "I have much more important things to do. You know, I won the election by a landslide. I gave him a lot of favors during my first term; I actually saved his life. Now I have no intention of speaking to him at all." Amid rampant rumors that Musk may support Democratic lawmakers and candidates in the 2026 midterm elections, Trump also issued a warning that such actions would have serious consequences. Trump told NBC, "If he does this, he will have to pay the price." However, Trump declined to specify what those consequences would be.
