Bitcoin, a statement regarding its policy on non-financial transactions. Over 30 participants signed the document, which affirms that as a censorship-resistant system, Bitcoin can and will be used in use cases not agreed upon by all.
Final Bitcoin Core statement on non-financial transactions
Bitcoin Core, the most widely used full node software for Bitcoin, announced its support for lifting the restrictions placed to prevent the addition of data deemed undesirable (spam) to the blockchain.
The document, signed by more than 30 developers and contributors to the project, states that restrictive policies on the transfer of non-financial transactions are harmful to the project's goals.
The statement clarified:
Rejecting the inclusion of transactions that miners will embed in blocks in any case forces users to use alternative communication channels, undermining the goals of transaction transfer.
Bitcoin Core pointed out that even if these restrictions continue, users and miners can collaborate directly to avoid any external attempts to impose restrictions on their activities. This is one of the reasons that led supporters of lifting OP_RETURN restrictions to adopt this step.
