US Tariff Policy Weakens Economy, Trump Claims Otherwise
President of the United States (US) Donald Trump stated that the tariff policy issued has made the economy of his country grow rapidly. Conversely, US economic data has become increasingly concerning since the beginning of 2025.
"Because of the tariffs, our economy (US) is growing rapidly," he wrote on his personal X platform.
In reality, the US dollar has continued to decline, with the US Dollar Index (USDX) dropping 10% from the beginning of 2025 to the present. More specifically, the index was at the level of US$110 thousand in January, whereas the current condition is at US$98 thousand.
Additionally, Bloomberg data recorded that US Consumer Spending showed a slight decrease of 0.2% at the end of May. Meanwhile, U.S. personal consumption expenditures (PCE) also fell by 2.1% during the same period.
Thus, the economy in the US is currently suffering from a downturn due to trade tariff policies. On the other hand, companies in the US are fleeing, such as Apple, which has chosen India as a place to produce its iPhone, a move to reduce the impact of tariffs.
