PANews reported on June 6 that according to Cointelegraph, blockchain analysis shows a cryptocurrency wallet associated with the now-closed dark web market AlphaBay is suspected to be the source of the 300 bitcoins (worth approximately $31 million) donated to 'Silk Road' founder Ross Ulbricht. The blockchain analysis company Chainalysis revealed to (Wired) magazine that these bitcoin donations trace back to AlphaBay, which operated from 2014 to 2017. Chainalysis speculated that the funds may have come from a major supplier on that platform. Independent blockchain investigator ZachXBT confirmed the funds did not originate from 'Silk Road' and noted that the donor used multiple mixing services to obscure transaction traces, as well as cashing out other cryptocurrencies in small amounts, suggesting the funds might come from criminal activity. However, ZachXBT stated that the analysis indicates this money is a 'legitimate donation, but the source of the funds is not legal.' He said, 'Using multiple mixers and dispersing funds into CEX, among other actions, is typically done in an attempt to avoid having illegal funds frozen.'

On June 1, it was reported that the donation wallet of 'Silk Road' founder Ross Ulbricht received 300 bitcoins 8 hours ago.
