Amazon announced an investment of $10 billion to create an innovative cloud computing and artificial intelligence (AI) campus in Richmond County, North Carolina. This project, announced on June 4, 2025, is one of the largest in the state's history and aims to expand Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure to support generative AI. The investment will create at least 500 high-skilled jobs, including data center engineers and networking specialists, as well as thousands of indirect jobs in the supply chain.
Amazon is also launching the Richmond County Community Fund with an initial contribution of $150,000 to support STEM education, sustainability, and economic development. The company plans to collaborate with local colleges and schools, offering data center technician training programs and scholarships for students. This step is part of Amazon's global strategy, which includes spending up to $100 billion on AI projects in 2025 to compete with Microsoft, Google, and OpenAI.
Governor Josh Stein called the investment key to positioning North Carolina as a tech hub. Stay tuned for updates to learn more about the impact of this project! Subscribe to #MiningUpdates
