Brazilian cryptocurrency market trades R$ 19 billion in May driven by strong rise of bitcoin.

Driven by the strong rise of bitcoin, Brazilians traded a total of R$ 19.8 billion in cryptocurrencies in the month of May — a 19% increase over April, which saw R$ 16.6 billion traded. The data comes from Mercado Cripto, the main price information aggregator of the Brazilian market.

The tool developed by Livecoins shows that, of the total traded during the period, Tether (USDT) was the most traded asset in the country, with R$ 7.4 billion, while bitcoin traded R$ 6.8 billion. These two cryptocurrencies were the most traded during the period, as has occurred in recent months of this year.

The monthly record for 2025, however, still belongs to January, when R$ 20 billion was traded on Brazilian exchanges. It is worth remembering that this was the moment when bitcoin reached its historical high of R$ 660 thousand per unit.
